Landlords: are required to provide working smoke alarm(s), whether the building is a rented house or an apartment in a large building. Tenants are responsible for maintaining the smoke alarm(s) in good working condition once they take residency there.
Renters: if your rental property does not have a smoke alarm, inform your landlord of this obligation.
