TRAFFIC PERMIT (CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT) GUIDE
Purpose
A traffic permit is issued to a contractor to park and operate construction equipment on Arlington County streets.
ATTENTION
The Department of Environmental Services has revised the Applications for the Public Right-of-Way Permits.
You may pickup forms at the Department of Environmental Services office in 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, Suite 813 or forms can be downloaded from the Arlington County website. All applications shall be submitted to this office. Should you have any questions, call 703-228-3629, Option #0. We appreciate your cooperation.

Fee schedule
Fee: Must be determined by County staff.
Information Required:
- Name and address
- Daytime telephone number of the requestor
- Location, time and date
- What will be parked and operated
After collecting the above information call: 703-228-3629, Option #0 to discuss your needs.
Requirements:
- How many lanes maintained?
- Use flag person, and cones for safety.
- Determine the appropriate number of feet construction equipment will be allowed to extend from the curb.
- Use advance warning signs, arrow boards etc.
- Provide traffic control plan.
- Cannot work in the rush hour, unless otherwise permitted, only between 9:30am – 3:30 pm * Monday – Friday.
- Set up detours
- If the curb lane needs to be clear or reserved prepare a temporary ordinance for "No Parking" signs or "Reserved" parking. If parking meters need to be removed in conjunction with any construction project, 5 days advanced notice is required for action by the meter shop crew, and the Treasurers’ Office.
- No permit can be issued where it would conflict with any event or business in the area.
