Construction Update (Updated March 2012): We are over halfway there! The blasting operation for the Rosslyn Station Project is complete and the entire project is more than 50% complete. During the past 11 months, crews blasted and excavated the area for the shaft, emergency exit stairs, and upper (public) and lower mezzanines of the new station entrance. Construction on the elevator shaft and mezzanines is anticipated to continue for the rest of 2012..The project is currently on time and on budget. Click here for recent construction photos.

The Rosslyn Metrorail Station serves as a critical transit hub for Northern Virginia and the Washington Metropolitan region. Tens of thousands of commuters pass through Rosslyn each day, giving the station the highest daily Metrorail ridership numbers in Virginia and outside of the District of Columbia overall. During the past decade the Rosslyn Metrorail Station has experienced a nearly 23 percent increase in riders with daily ridership now exceeding 36,000.
To accommodate the increase in ridership and provide an improved transit experience, the Rosslyn Metrorail Station Access Improvement (RSAI) Project was approved by the Arlington County Board in 2010 and, in October of that year, construction began on this additional entrance for the Rosslyn Metro station. The project will bring a number of long term benefits to commuters and the surrounding community.
Arlington County’s Department of Environmental Services, Transportation Division is managing the design and construction of the new station in coordination with Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Partners on the project include the Arlington County Department of Environmental Services, The JBG Companies, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation and the Federal Department of Transportation. Also involved are Clark Construction Group, LLC and Arlington’s construction manager, STV.
Access to the Rosslyn Station will be maintained throughout construction to avoid disruptions. Changes to traffic patterns, parks and pedestrian walkways are necessary to ensure that Rosslyn operates as safely and efficiently as possible during this time. We are committed to working with our partners to minimize the noise and traffic impacts during construction and to ensure the safety for everyone in the right-of-way. The estimated completion date is spring of 2013.
Effective October, 2010, N. Moore Street is one-way southbound between 19th Street North and Wilson Blvd. A portion of this block of N. Moore St. will also narrow to one lane. Some Rosslyn Metrorail Station bus stops have been relocated, but remain on N. Moore St. between 19th Street North and Wilson Blvd. These changes are due to construction for both the 1812 N. Moore Street development and the Rosslyn Station Project - See Traffic Changes & Bus Map.

1812 North Moore Street is a private development that will consist of a LEED Platinum-registered office building. The new building will be adjacent to the existing Rosslyn Metrorail Station entrance. Construction on this project began in the fall of 2010 and, once completed, will include changes to bus stops, traffic patterns and pedestrian walkways.
