| WALKArlington |
| Funding will be used for the design and implementation of multiple WALKArlington projects that are either proposed in the new WALKArlington report or remain priorities in areas outside of the pilot area. All projects will implement the WALKArlington principles. These projects will give primary consideration to the pedestrian, provide a safe pedestrian environment for all, create enjoyable pedestrian “places,” and ensure a well-connected pedestrian network that is easy to navigate. |
| Program's Mission:
The Pedestrian Element of the Master Transportation Plan was adopted in 1997. It advanced policy initiatives to meet the needs of pedestrians. In March 2004, the WALKArlington Initiative was published which studied a pilot area in Ballston, but also proposed a comprehensive refocusing of the Pedestrian Systems efforts. The recommendations made in this proposal attempt to advance the concepts of WALKArlington throughout the County. |
