The Arlington Chapter of the American Red Cross trains volunteers to respond to single person and multi-family disasters throughout the county. Volunteers provide basic emergency needs to those affected, including shelter, food and clothing and also provide support to relief workers.
All volunteers start by attending a New Volunteer Orientation where they find out about the different levels of response and the training required to respond at each level. The chart below presents an overview of the levels.

| National Disaster Services Human Resource System | Incidents affecting multiple counties/states and/or those with financial and or media implications larger than the Region can manage | 4 or more four-hour courses; Participation on Chapter Disaster Committee; Specialty training; Field experience; Availability for three-week assignment; By nomination |
