Arlington County is Storm Ready

Arlington County continues to be StormReady certified community.  StormReady is a community preparedness program encouraging government entities and commercial gathering sites to prepare for severe storms.  Sponsored by the National Weather Service, StormReady issues recognition to communities and sites across the country that demonstrate severe weather readiness.  The program is voluntary, and provides communities with clear-cut advice from a partnership with the local National Weather Service Office, state and local emergency managers, and the media.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has a regional page monitoring weather trends for the Baltimore/Washington area.  Click here for regional weather trends during major weather events, or you can Click here for the Arlington forecast.

Emergency Operations Plan

To respond effectively to any emergency of a size or complexity beyond routine response systems, it is critical that all Arlington County employees, public officials, departments and agencies, non-governmental emergency organizations and the public understand their roles and responsibilities. These non-routine responsibilities begin as the incident is recognized and response ensues, and become particularly important as command organizes beyond the initial reactive phase of “first-due” responders. Outdoor Warning System

Arlington County’s outdoor warning system, funded by a grant from Homeland Security, is an integral part of the County’s redundant systems to reach the public in the event of an emergency. Find out More>>
