On March 15, the County Board approved the 2011 Federal Priorities document. These priorities represent the major federal issues that the County will focus on with the United States Congress and the Executive Branch.
On March 1, the County Manager received a letter from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in response to her letter to them regarding Arlington's inclusion in their Secure Communities initiative. In their response, ICE states very clearly that Arlington County does not have an option to not participate in the Secure Communities initiative.
The County’s 2010 Annual Report is now available. The report highlights many of the County’s accomplishments during the year in a number of areas including: financial, economic and environmental sustainability, social safety net programs, public safety, employer of choice, administrative and physical infrastructure improvements, and capital programs. A mid-year update of the 2010 Management Plan / County Board Priority Check List is available. The update reflects the County’s progress on initiatives identified as key priority projects for the calendar year. These projects are additional to the other annual processes, initiatives, work plans, programs, and the routine operations and services provided to the community.
Even when County Government is "closed," it is never really closed. Throughout the snow event, hundreds of County employees remain on the job to keep the community running.

Arlington appreciates the expeditious action by the Administration and Congress in reaching agreement on an economic stimulus package. Arlington is ready -- with a number of projects that are ready to go. 2008 was a challenging yet successful year for Arlington County. This is evident in the accomplishments during the year in the areas of environmental sustainability, affordable housing, transportation, planning and development, public safety, human services, inclusion, civic engagement, and a healthy community. Arlington County Manager Ron Carlee announced (Oct. 9) an immediate hiring freeze and other spending reductions – the first steps to addressing what is projected to be a $10 million gap in the FY 2009 budget. This $10 million gap represents 1.6% of the general County government operations budget.

Not long ago, climate change was seen as largely a political issue, but it has now emerged as a major public policy challenge for every local government. In today’s climate, reducing the carbon footprint is no longer considered a trendy or innovative practice; it is a necessity for the sustainability of communities. This article describes several of the programs Arlington County has instituted in order to meet the 2012 goal of a 10% reduction in carbon emissions produced by County government. Residents are highly satisfied with County government services, according to results from Arlington’s second Resident Satisfaction Survey, conducted by ETC Institute. Overall satisfaction improved in 57 of the 84 service areas that were rated in the 2004 and 2008 surveys. When compared to other communities its size, overall satisfaction with County services rated 29 percent above the national average. See all the details here.
For the eighth consecutive year, Standard & Poor's, Fitch Ratings, and Moody's Investor Services all have given Arlington County’s debt the highest rating: AAA/AAA/Aaa. Arlington is one of only 22 counties in the United States to carry the coveted triple-A bond rating from all three rating agencies.
May 2008: Arlington is conducting its second countywide, statistically valid survey of residents. The survey will measure satisfaction with major County services and gather input about issues facing the community. The survey is being mailed to 3,600 residents in all parts of the County.
2007 was a prosperous year for the County as many goals where achieved and milestones were met. The County had success in areas including housing, immigration, and environmental sustainability and planning and development. There were also achievements in the areas of small business and nonprofits, transportation, community services, public safety, financial management, organizational development, and capital programs.
