Neighborhood Conservation Program

The Neighborhood Sign Process

The Neighborhood Conservation Program provides funding for the design, fabrication and installation of neighborhood signs. This process is summarized below.

  1. Funding Session

  3. Design/Fabrication
  4. Installation
  5. Maintenance

Funding Session (6 months)

Civic Association:

  • Has an approved Neighborhood Conservation Plan to qualify for a neighborhood sign project.
  • Provides a Letter of Commitment which states the Civic Association voted to proceed with a neighborhood sign project.
  • Selects a primary contact person and a small sign committee.

Sign Project:

  • Approved in NCAC Funding Session
  • Approved by County Board

The funding is for a maximum of 4 signs fabricated of a synthetic granite material and associated landscaping. Small signs are 24" x 24" and large signs are 40" x 72".

Design (+/- 6 months)

Primary Contact Person:

  • Serves as a liaison between County staff and Sign Committee/Civic Association

Sign Committee:

  • Develops design concepts
  • Determines locations for signs on County property
  • Obtains approval from Civic Association on design and sign locations

Staff Landscape Architect:

  • Provides technical assistance

Design/Fabrication (+/- 2 months)

Sign manufacturer:

  • Prepares preliminary drawings from design concepts
  • Prepares final drawings prior to fabrication

Sign Committee and Civic Association:

  • Provides final review and sign-off prior to sign fabrication

Installation (+/- 3 months)

  • County Traffic Engineering staff reviews sign locations
  • County Zoning Office processes and approves sign permits
  • Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Resources installs the neighborhood signs through a work order

Maintenance (on-going)

Civic Association:

  • Requests volunteers to maintain signs and associated plantings
  • Completes sign maintenance pledge card
  • Completes landscape maintenance pledge card
