Relocation
Relocation refers to the displacement of tenants due to redevelopment. Often, tenants displaced from their rental housing are entitled to relocation payments or other benefits.
Landlords and/or Developers considering the redevelopment of a multi-family complex will need information regarding Arlington County's Tenant Relocation Guidelines (PDF Format), revised and approved in January 2009, and Virginia Code Section 55.222 (PDF Format). Requirements may vary depending on the source of funding and zoning regulations. Arlington County provides direct technical assistance with the creation of a relocation plan and compliance with all guidelines. A Format for Relocation Plan, Anti-displacement Plan and Guidelines for Recipient of HUD Assistance are available by contacting Robin Canty at 703.228.3791 or by email. View the Monthly Relocation Summary form and the Relocation Tracking form. For a Word version of either document, email Robin Canty.
Developers looking to convert an apartment building to condominium or cooperative ownership should be aware of the state and county guidelines regarding condo conversion (PDF Format).
