Retail Action PlanPDF Icon:
A plan that serves as a guide for how the County can strategically and comprehensively develop a viable retail economy in the context of unique downtown environments along the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor. The plan builds on an assessment of current retail conditions in Arlington as well as national and regional retail trends to lay the foundation for the development of retail strategies and policies (2001).

Industrial Land Use and Zoning Study:
A report containing a history and background of industrial land uses and planning; a discussion of trends affecting industrial development; an assessment of existing industrial conditions; an assessment of specific land use and development issues; an assessment of Arlington’s industrial land use controls compared to other local jurisdictions; and conclusions and recommendation for addressing industrial land use for the future (2000).

Working Paper of the Parking Task Force:
A report developed by a County-appointed Parking Task Force that presents the County Board with options and/or recommendations relating to a variety of parking and transportation initiatives including shared parking, on-street parking, and mass transit (2000).

South Eads Street - Design Guidelines for Interim Uses:
The Eads Street Urban Design Plan is the culmination of a joint planning effort by the Department of Community Planning, Housing, and Development, the Department of Public Works, the Long-Range Planning Sub-committee of the Planning Commission, the Aurora Highlands and Arlington Ridge Neighborhoods, and the businesses along South Eads Street. The Plan includes the following elements:

  • Streetscape improvements that will be implemented by the Deparment of Public Works and will provide new streetscape on the west side of Eads Street and a planted median along Eads Street;
  • Site by Site Interim Design improvements that illustrates how individual businesses may be visually enhanced through various interim improvements including facade renovations and streetscape improvements.
  • Design Guidelines for Interim Uses that can be used by planning staff in formulating conditions for use permits or other development proposals.
